In 2006, a band that would quickly become one of the most well-known, genre-defying names in the scene, was formed in Athens, Ohio.
Now in 2016 – 4 LPs, 1 EP, a live studio album and more than 1,000 live performances in 5 different countries later – Papadosio’s Anthony Thogmartin, Mike Healy, Rob McConnell, Billy Brouse and Sam Brouse are preparing to celebrate their 10-year anniversary.
“It’s crazy how much has happened and how much has changed over these years,” Anthony said. “It has definitely taken a lot of work and trust in the process.”
Spreading a message of unity and love with their soul-stirring, groove-inducing songs, the quintet has gained a massive, very dedicated family of fans – fans that Anthony credits for the band’s perseverance over the years.
For the first time ever, fans can vote for what songs they want the setlist to include by visiting the show’s event page on Facebook.
No matter the outcome of the vote, fans can certainly expect a truly extraordinary show.
“It will most definitely be a celebration,” Anthony said. “We are going to pull out all the stops. Reach back into the deep catalog yet make future sounds at the same time.”
As far as why they choose The Madison Theater for their anniversary show, Anthony said the band, now based in Asheville, NC, wanted to offer a centralized location to make it easy for fans to attend, and because they are originally from the area.
“We came from the Midwest and it feels right to return for an anniversary show,” Anthony said.
The event will also include live art from the top artists in the area and the Share Your Cloud philanthropy group. At the Share Your Cloud booth, an auction will be held to raise money for ‘Project Green Wall’ – an interdisciplinary project between 2 designers and 3 University of Cincinnati students – a horticulture major, an anthropology major and an engineering major.
“We’re building a green wall to improve student life at the DAAP (University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning) building with an edible green wall that provides food while also helping improve air quality and showing all of the possibilities of green walls and their benefits,” said Gavin Gerundo, one of the project organizers.
Prior to the event, all are welcome to come to CommuNati, a celebration of community, culture and creativity that has been held the afternoon before Papadosio shows the last 4 times they’ve come to this area.
CommuNati, a free event that includes workshops, community and skill building exercises, art, music and more. This event will be in conjunction with Share Your Cloud and the Home Dome crew, and will be held before the show from 5-9 p.m. at Madison Live! (734 Madison Ave., Covington, KY) the next door venue attached to The Madison Theater.
And for the many fans that just can’t get enough Papadosio, you’re in luck. The anniversary is not the only time Essential Productions are bringing the boys to this area – they’ll also be playing 2 sets at Paradise Music & Arts Festival in Late April and 3 nights at Resonance Music & Arts Festival in September.
