Dust off those dancing shoes…this Friday, May 20, Essential Productions is hosting a good ol’ fashioned bluegrass throw-down in Covington with Horseshoes & Hand Grenades bringing their progressive, high-energy blend of bluegrass, old-time and folk music for their Madison Live! debut.
The Wisconsin-based 5-piece band is made up of 5 friends who have been playing music together since 2009, finding their place in the Midwest music scene and beyond.
After taking third place in Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s Band Competition in 2012, they went on to share the stage with well-known acts such as Trampled By Turtles, The Travelin’ McCourys, Railroad Earth, Merle Haggard, The Infamous Stringdusters and more.
The band recently wrapped a month-long tour with Yonder Mountain String Band, and will soon be embarking on a packed summer tour including stops at Delfest, Summer Camp Music Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, the Northwest String Summit.
But first the band – made up of members David Lynch, Russell Pedersen, Adam Greuel, Sam Odin and Collin Mettelka – will be bringing their unique blend of music to the Madison Live! this Friday, May 20.
Greuel said the band is looking forward to playing and hanging out in the Cincinnati area.
“People seem genuinely friendly and kind, and it’s a great music community,” Greuel said. “(This show is) gonna be a celebration of great friends and the start of summertime! We can’t wait to rip it up with everyone.”
Horseshoes & Hand Grenades will be supported by Lexington-based Restless Leg String Band, incorporating original songs, traditional bluegrass numbers, and a wide range of covers songs.
