Essential Productions is a community driven event planning and promotion company with an emphasis on music and art. EP hosts many events in the Greater Cincinnati area focusing on empowering those in their own community as well as bringing in talent from across the country. The company hosts two music & arts festivals each year – Paradise Music and Arts Festival and Resonance Music and Arts Festival – embodying their goals and mentalities on a much larger scale. EP strives to keep pushing the limits and boundaries of a typical ‘concert’ experience and hopes to provide a platform for the talented and supportive members of their community in the process.
The company was founded in March of 2013 by Kevin Harris, Zack Szabo and Casey Schneider in the Cincinnati, OH/Northern Kentucky area. What started as the fusion of two like-minded promotion companies with similar goals and musical tastes in mind, soon blossomed into a production team that put on events unlike any other in the area. With the support of live painters, local vendors, fire-spinners and performers from across the US, Essential Productions has managed to create a unique, festival-like atmosphere with every show.
In their first year on the scene they developed quite the resume of local and national acts including Lotus, Papadosio, Keller Williams, The Werks, Boombox, Nahko & Medicine for the People, Dopapod, Twiddle, Toubab Krewe, Rusted Root, Michal Menert, Dark Star Orchestra, The Floozies, Manic Focus, TAUK, Aqueous, Random Rab, Desert Dwellers, The Main Squeeze, Zoogma, Earphunk, Thriftworks, The Malah, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus, Broccoli Samurai, Phutureprimitive, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, The Heavy Pets, Areptrio, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Blue Moon Soup, The Mantras, The Manhattan Project, Peridoni, Nevele, Strange Mechanics, Benchwood Wyse and many more.
Essential Productions reached new heights in 2014 with the inaugural year of two festivals. The first, Paradise Music and Arts Festival, took place in July and was located in the rolling hills of Hustonville, Kentucky. The first year’s lineup included The Werks, Dopapod, Zoogma, Moon Hooch, Kalya Scintilla, Govinda, Jahman Brahman, and many more. The second, Resonance Music and Arts Festival, took place in the fall of 2014 at Frontier Ranch in Pataskala, Ohio. This first year lineup included acts such as Papadosio, Greensky Bluegrass, Nahko & Medicine For The People, Dopapod, ESKMO, Phutureprimitive, Twiddle, and Tauk.
2015 was another successful year for EP, with the second go arounds of Paradise and Resonance and a large list of club shows. Resonance made the move to a new venue, Legend Valley, in the Thornville, OH, providing a larger more suitable space for this growing festival. With the opening of Madison Live! (new venue in Covington, KY) in May, EP found a new venue in which to showcase many of their smaller, club shows as well as local shows and “Open Jams”. The year concluded with a two night new year’s run featuring The Werks, Pink Talking Fish and Peridoni.
The year 2016 is shaping up to be EP’s biggest yet. With a diverse lineup of club shows, including Snarky Puppy, Nahko and Medicine For The People, The Motet, Ott., and more, EP’s following continues to grow. For it’s 3rd year, Paradise will take on new dates as well as a new venue. Resonance returns to Legend Valley for its 3rd year at the end of September with its strongest lineup yet.
